Invasion of Privacy at The Abyss Theatre

Invasion of Privacy

The Abyss Theatre
2304 N. Dixie Hwy Wilton Manors

When Pulitzer Prize-winning novelist Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings, best known for her tear-jerking novel The Yearling, followed up that work with a memoir called Cross Creek four years later, not everybody was happy. As a matter of fact, Rawlings' neighbor Zelma Cason sued her after reading it. Feeling herself the victim of an invasion of privacy, Cason claimed that the description of "her" character in the book made her out to be a "hussy," a cause of action that had never before been argued in a Florida court. Now, Larry Parr's Invasion of Privacy re-creates that seminal $100,000 lawsuit, as led by one of Florida's first female lawyers, on the stage of The Abyss Theatre.
