It Happened One Night

Broward Center for the Performing Arts
201 SW Fifth Avenue Fort Lauderdale

It Happened One Night, the acclaimed 1934 romantic comedy classic from director Frank Capra (It's a Wonderful Life, Mr. Smith Goes to Washington), was the first film ever to win all five major Academy Awards: Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actress, Best Actor and Best Screenplay. A reversal of the usual Cinderella story, It Happened One Night finds its heroine jumping off of her father's yacht after he tries to have her marriage to a fortune-hunter annulled. On a bus to New York City, she falls in with a cynical, down-on-his-luck newspaperman who offers to reunite her with her new husband in exchange for an exclusive story. Now, the verbal battles of wit and lighthearted sex appeal that lead these two down the road to love unfold as a live radio drama, performed by Arts Radio Network at Fort Lauderdale's Broward Center for the Performing Arts.
