201 SW Fifth Avenue Fort Lauderdale
When Dark Victory premiered on Broadway in 1934, legendary actress Tallulah Bankhead played the lead role of hard-partying socialite Judith Traherne, whose hedonistic life takes a turn when she's diagnosed with a brain tumor that will eventually rob her of her eyesight and her life. In the 1939 film adaptation, it was Hollywood icon Bette Davis who stepped into Judith's shoes, picking up an Academy Award nomination for her portrayal of a young woman struggling to come to terms with her mortality while falling in love with the doctor treating her. Now, this tragic, moving and widely celebrated play is coming to the stage at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts.
